20 years ago beer ruled in America. However, recent studies show that Americans are switching to wine at a rapid pace. The stats in this article may surprise you. Here are the quick facts:
- Beer's lead over wine has slipped by 20% in the past 20 years in America. Wine and beer are now neck and neck.
- Over 70% of young drinkers (18-29 year olds) preferred beer in 1992. Now only 40% of young drinkers prefer beer, with preferences leaning towards wine and liquor.
- Non-white Americans are increasingly drinking wine and liquor, in comparison to beer.
Here's another piece on the decline of the US beer industry. As much as I love beer (trust me, I drink a ton of it), I'd be lying if I said I wasn't happy to see these statistics. It's great to see that Americans are branching out. If you've recently switched from beer to wine, you may want to check out this awesome post to arm you with some basic wine knowledge.
