The 2013 Coquerel Tempranillo is one large wine. The color is intense black, showing a nice concentration. The nose is earthy, leathery, and dark with some spicy notes. The month-feel is rich and soft with a finish of black cherry. This voluptuous wine would pair perfectly with hearty winter dishes. Aged for 26 months in French oak. 50 cases produced.
With the 2005 purchase of their first estate vineyard, Coquerel Family Wine Estates began producing exceptional Napa Valley red and white wines under the guiding hand of winemaker Christine Barbe, who earned her Ph.D in 1996 from the Bordeaux Institute of Enology. The winery is located just beyond the town of Calistoga at the north end of the Napa Valley and the heart and soul of Coquerel Wines is their estate “Walnut Wash” vineyard, a gorgeous, oak-studded property that sits in the afternoon shadows of the Mayacamas Mountains. Pure, crisp whites and powerful, yet sophisticated, reds have become their hallmark; a true melding of Napa Valley intensity and French elegance.
