I love this wine because it truly reflects the proprietor - and his 4 boys - one firefighter, one air force pilot, one works at Microsoft, and one is a winemaker. I have a feeling that when they aren't drinking beer, they reach for this bottle of wine. This wine has equal parts fruit and spice with a wonderful peppery note that brings it all together. This wine pairs equally well with a nice steak or a camping trip and a bonfire. This is Distant Cellars' take on the Rhone blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre (GSM).
Distant Cellars Winery is located in the historic gold mining town of Fiddletown, California. Situated on the western edge of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, we are approximately 50 miles east of Sacramento. Nestled up against the Sierra Foothills, this picturesque region was settled in the early 1850's by thousands of fortune seekers flocking to the area, driven to satisfy their insatiable thirst for gold. Located in the eastern portion of the Fiddletown appellation, Distant Cellars' vineyard sits at over 2,000 feet in elevation with a soil consisting of decomposed, iron infused, granite. Averaging 36"-40" inches of rainfall a year, the vines are rarely in need of additional water while a high luminosity, or solar radiance, and low humidity allow their grapes to reach proper ripening year after year.
