Varietal Zinfandel

Winestyr Review

This is a big, spicy Zinfandel - plain and simple. The thing I really like about this wine is that it isn't a "dumb" wine. There are layers of bright fruit that give way to some darker fruit flavors ultimately finishing with some vanilla and spicy notes. The flavors are intense, but the structure of the wine is smooth and buttery for a young, full-bodied wine. This is a fun wine to have around for a variety of occasions, but I would open this bottle at the lake while hanging out with my dogs.

Distant Cellars

Distant Cellars Winery is located in the historic gold mining town of Fiddletown, California. Situated on the western edge of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, we are approximately 50 miles east of Sacramento. Nestled up against the Sierra Foothills, this picturesque region was settled in the early 1850's by thousands of fortune seekers flocking to the area, driven to satisfy their insatiable thirst for gold. Located in the eastern portion of the Fiddletown appellation, Distant Cellars' vineyard sits at over 2,000 feet in elevation with a soil consisting of decomposed, iron infused, granite. Averaging 36"-40" inches of rainfall a year, the vines are rarely in need of additional water while a high luminosity, or solar radiance, and low humidity allow their grapes to reach proper ripening year after year.
