Brilliant purple reflections in the glass open up to a wine leading with a tart fruit basket of black cherries, blackberry, and cassis. Red and purple flowers, fresh potting soil, and smooth textural intensity. A textbook example of what restraint in El Dorado Hills can do for the grape. Aged for 10 months in neutral oak. 100% Cabernet Franc. 50 cases produced.
After biding his time at California’s iconic Paso Robles winery, Tablas Creek, the Elwell’s took the domestic wine scene by storm, producing wines from one grape and one grape only: Cabernet Franc. It wasn’t just the wines of France’s Loire Valley that influenced their devotion to the grape but Tyler’s early discovery of what more moderate climates on the West Coast could accomplish with it. In addition to their very drinkable California appellation bottling, they also produce single-vineyard expressions and Blanc of Cabernet Franc that is simply irresistible.
