We love this unique Rosé of Zinfandel from the Pestoni's gently sloping family vineyard in Lake County. This dry wine showcases refreshing flavors of watermelon and peach, making it the ideal summer sipper but with more layers and complexity than many Rosés. This wine has more intense fruit flavors than many traditional Rosés from France, but that's because it's a wonderful expression of arguably California's most famous grape, Zinfandel. Only 420 cases produced.
Jelly Jar marks a return to early California winemaking, when Italian immigrants crafted food-friendly wines to enjoy around the family table – most often out of jelly jars. Long before Napa Valley became the wine destination we know today, these winemakers planted backyard vineyards and enlisted family members to harvest and crush grapes. Andy Pestoni (proprietor) is a fourth generation winemaker with deep roots in the Napa Valley. Andy’s great-grandfather, Albino Pestoni, arrived in St. Helena in the late 1890’s from Italy and settled with his family. Making wine was part of their heritage and remnants of the family’s original hand-built winery still stands today at the base of Howell Mountain. Andy continues the winemaking tradition with Jelly Jar, a wine reminiscent of those early days when times were a bit simpler.
