Winestyr Review

I initially tasted this wine as a barrel sample and was immediately impressed, so this became Winestyr's first exclusive wine. Made with 100% Cortese grapes exclusively from the Lost Slough Vineyard in Clarksburg, CA the wine is dry and crisp with medium body and a subtle, yet pleasing fleshy texture. The grapes were whole cluster pressed and barrel fermented in neutral oak, and underwent no malo-lactic fermentation. Very reminiscent of some of its Italian (Cortese is almost exclusively grown in Italy) counterparts, this wine is somewhat austere, with notes of lime zest and a hint of lemongrass. This is a tremendous food wine and would pair perfectly with fresh fish like yellowtail sashimi or light seafood or vegetable pastas. Only 111 cases produced.

Matthiasson

Steve Matthiasson, who got his start as a heralded vineyard manager, and his wife, Jill Klein Matthiasson, an ivy league educated botanist, have become a formidable duo in the world of winemaking. The critical acclaim for their approach to farming, as well as their winemaking, and wines, seems to have no bounds. The list is too long to include here, but some of the highlights include recognition from the James Beard Foundation and winemaker of the year honors from California wine guru Jon Bonné of the San Francisco Chronicle.
