The Oak Knoll AVA of Napa Valley is not usually known for Pinot Noir, but this wine really makes me think there will be more Pinot planted there in the future. Rich and elegant, bordering on opulence, this is a decadent, medium to full-bodied Pinot Noir that somehow displays very nice balance and true-to-varietal flavors. I found myself going back for sip after sip. This is not a wine for fans of lean, cooler weather Pinots.
A Napa Valley mainstay, Monticello Vineyards is proud to be family owned and operated. The winery is now managed by its second generation of Corleys, sons Kevin, Chris, and Stephen. Their overriding philosophy is that great wines are made in the vineyards. While much of Napa Valley has gone the way of luxury brands promoting some sort of lifestyle over the substance of their wines, Monticello remains steadfast in the exact opposite mindset. Here it is about the vineyards and wine, that’s it.
