Winestyr Review

The Oak Knoll AVA of Napa Valley is not usually known for Pinot Noir, but this wine really makes me think there will be more Pinot planted there in the future. Rich and elegant, bordering on opulence, this is a decadent, medium to full-bodied Pinot Noir that somehow displays very nice balance and true-to-varietal flavors. I found myself going back for sip after sip. This is not a wine for fans of lean, cooler weather Pinots.

What We Love

  • Rich, velvety, and decadent
  • Oak Knoll AVA of Napa Valley

The 2012 Monticello Estate Grown Pinot Noir is rich and decadent in all the right ways.

I was first introduced to Stephen Corley by an old friend whose fraternity had a local alumni reunion at which Stephen was serving Monticello's wines. My friend was so impressed that he insisted we consider adding Monticello to our site, and quickly put me in touch with Stephen. We began working with Monticello shortly thereafter and have been impressed by the high standards they maintain throughout every aspect of their operation ever since.

A Napa Valley mainstay, Monticello Vineyards is proud to be family owned and operated. It was founded in 1970 by Jay Corley, and the winery is now managed by his sons, Kevin, Chris, and Stephen. Their overriding philosophy is that great wines are made in the vineyards. Monticello now farms five vineyards in the Napa Valley focusing on producing high quality Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Chardonnay. If you're ever in Napa make sure to stop by their amazing might just mistake it for the real Monticello.

Where are the ratings?

Are the wines any good? Yes, they are and we taste every wine that is considered for our site. We seek out the best wines from the best small-producers in the U.S. and Winestyr is a collection of our favorites. Most of the wines have impressive accolades, however, don't look for "expert" ratings here - we think it's more important to buy wines you find interesting and to decide for yourself.
