Winestyr Review

Not your average Sauvignon Blanc. High toned citrus and spring flowers fill the glass along with a salty, mineral quality. Tart and thirst quenching on the palate with sour green apple and more of that saline freshness coming through on the finish. This comes from a single vineyard with 70-year-old vines that have never before been irrigated.

What We Love

  • New age Sauvignon Blanc
  • Single vineyard, Mendocino County
  • Supreme minerality

This calls for summertime and fans of natural wine

Experience

Populis is dedicated to making honest, terroir-driven, natural wines available at an affordable price. Populis is at the forefront of the natural wine trend that is sweeping the nation. I've been asked many times what natural wine is and the best, concise definition is that natural wine comes from old vine vineyards that use no herbicides, no synthetic pesticides, and the fruit is organic. The wine is then made with as little intervention as possible - no manipulation, no added ingredients, no filtering, extremely low sulfites - and fermented with indigenous yeast. The resulting wines are funky, complex, interesting, and approachable to drink. We're excited to have Populis as part of our portfolio, and we know you'll enjoy their wines.

Where are the ratings?

Are the wines any good? Yes, they are and we taste every wine that is considered for our site. We seek out the best wines from the best small-producers in the U.S. and Winestyr is a collection of our favorites. Most of the wines have impressive accolades, however, don't look for "expert" ratings here - we think it's more important to buy wines you find interesting and to decide for yourself. Need some specific recommendations? Chat us in the lower right box or send our lead curator an email at bob@winestyr.com.
