What you may not know is that Red Car has been producing Syrah longer than any other varietal wine of theirs. Balancing bright, tart fruit and silky, smoky tannins is the focus of the winery's Sonoma Coast Syrah. As always, winemaking follows the ethos of native yeast fermentation, moderate stem inclusion and being aged in 500L puncheons for 18 months. The fruit here is sourced from a combination of Vivio Vineyard in Bennet Valley, the Red Car estate in Fort Ross-Seaview, and other cool climate sites.
Red Car was first imagined during a trip to the coastal mountains of western Sonoma County. There was a clear sense that this was the place where Red Car should settle, a place to call home. That morning’s sights and smells of the Pacific fog mixed with the giant redwoods as the sunshine pushed it back out to sea inspired in the founders a harmony with nature. They felt connected to the hum of the land and couldn’t wait to express its uniqueness in their wines. The inaugural vintage for Red Car was 2000 and since then they have achieved soaring heights for their stunning cool weather wines.
