This snappy Gruner Veltliner from Baker & Brain is their first release from their own plantings in Edna Valley and this wine is a gem. This wine seems to have its own lifeforce and when it hits your mouth, it releases its energy with an exquisitely pleasing mix of flavors. Green apple, stone fruit, crushed river rock, and lively acidity make for a complex, yet balanced wine that would pair well with a crazy variety of foods, but is equally enjoyable on its own. A great effort from Baker & Brain. 100% Gruner Veltliner. 415 cases produced.
We were referred to Baker & Brain by a customer in Chicago who insisted they would be a perfect addition to the Winestyr portfolio. After speaking with Melanie Brain and tasting their wines, it was clear why. Not only is the quality of product very much present in their offerings, Melanie and the others behind their production are the type of people you want to know. Down to earth and passionate about what they do, and how they do it, I could easily see myself completely losing track of time during a relaxed sampling of their outstanding wines accompanied by easy conversation.
Baker & Brain is a perfect example of the type of producer we had in mind when we started Winestyr. Conceived over a campfire and a flask of whiskey, this winery led by Josh Baker and Matt Brain is proud of their passionate commitment to what they call "maximum attention - minimum intervention." Due to their small production, each wine receives the utmost care in its creation, all while the winemakers apply minimal processing of the grapes so as to allow nature to run its course in producing amazing wines. In addition to producing outstanding, passion filled craft wines, Baker & Brain is also proud to boast that they are produced at a winery where 100% of all waste is recycled and all the power comes from the sun!More from this winery
Are the wines any good? Yes, they are and we taste every wine that is considered for our site. We seek out the best wines from the best small-producers in the U.S. and Winestyr is a collection of our favorites. Most of the wines have impressive accolades, however, don't look for "expert" ratings here - we think it's more important to buy wines you find interesting and to decide for yourself.
