Colcanyon continues to blow us away with micro-production wines from their 2 estate acres. This Merlot has loads of fruit, earth, pepper and spice, but it's dry and clean with lots of complexity. Terroir-driven from the Malibu Coast AVA, it is probably unlike anything you've tried - in a really good way. One customer called it "the best Merlot I've ever had." 144 cases produced.
Colcanyon produces tiny amounts of Estate grown wines from their 2 acres of vines. Their wines are unique, terroir-driven, gems from the mountains of Malibu in the newly created Malibu Coast AVA. The wines have racy acid, concentrated fruit, and are expertly crafted in lots of less than 100 cases. The accolades they've received are stunning for such a small production winery.
There is more to Malibu than celebrities and a great coastline. In fact, there is an emerging viticulture movement with more than 50 boutique vineyards. Established in 2001, Colcanyon Estate Wines was amongst the early entrants in the up-and-coming Santa Monica Mountain wineries. Until 2010 Colcanyon Estate Wines were only available for family and close friends, but now Colcanyon’s award-winning Cabernets and Merlots are available for you too!More from this winery
Are the wines any good? Yes, they are and we taste every wine that is considered for our site. We seek out the best wines from the best small-producers in the U.S. and Winestyr is a collection of our favorites. Most of the wines have impressive accolades, however, don't look for "expert" ratings here - we think it's more important to buy wines you find interesting and to decide for yourself. very interesting well balanced for a merlot
Excellent, complex and went well with Christmas Eve roast
Honestly one of the worst wines I have had in recent time. Cork was faulty and broke. Had to double decant to get the cork out of the wine. Lots of oak, overly ripe fruit. On the nose notes of lighter fluid and the palette is over ripened tomatoes and green peppers. Not notes that are to be desired and resulted in a drain pour.
My husband and I got this wine in our shipment and loved it. Can’t wait to have it again
