Tannat plays well with others, making it a popular blending grape down in Paso Robles, but it's known for being extremely sturdy and dense on its own. Somehow, it's still no surprise that grapes from Alder Springs and the touch of Michael Cruse produced a wine this drinkable in its youth. There's real power and structure here but no lack of crunchy, bright fruit character to make it a joy to drink.
Michael Cruse may be known as the sparkling wine whisperer of California (thanks to his cult status wine, Ultramarine) but there's much more to his winemaking than that.
