Winestyr Review

It isn't just the unique blend--90% Tempranillo, 5% Graciano, 5% Pinot Noir--that sets this apart from Enfield's Shake Ridge Ranch Tempranillo. John Lockwood makes his Pretty Horses to be a fresher, more instantly accessible representation of this Spanish varietal. While Shake Ridge Ranch is still used as a vineyard source, that little bit of Pinot Noir comes from Heron Lake Vineyard in Wild Horse Valley AVA. Yeehaw!

What We Love

  • Unique blend
  • Acclaimed winemaking
  • Excellent vineyard sourcing

Drink this unique blend immediately with Spanish tapas or on any cool Fall evening.

Experience

John Lockwood started in the California wine industry in 2004 working at Heron Lake vineyard. He went on to work harvests at Littorai, Bodega Melipal in Argentina, and Failla Wines. He started Enfield Wine Co. in 2010 as small side-project while still working at Failla, and in 2013 Enfield became a full time project. Driven by soil first, Enfield seeks out vineyards that possess a distinct and powerful sense of place – across region, grape variety, and vine age. Working with small vineyards and independent growers, every step of the process is guided by the intent to maximize this character of terroir. Grapes are harvested for balance and the wines are all given the chance to ferment naturally. The wines have been met with serious critical acclaim and we're excited to have them in our portfolio.

Where are the ratings?

Are the wines any good? Yes, they are and we taste every wine that is considered for our site. We seek out the best wines from the best small-producers in the U.S. and Winestyr is a collection of our favorites. Most of the wines have impressive accolades, however, don't look for "expert" ratings here - we think it's more important to buy wines you find interesting and to decide for yourself. Need some specific recommendations? Chat us in the lower right box or send our lead curator an email at bob@winestyr.com.
