Gård is a true family operation in a state where industrial-sized wineries too often reign supreme. Josh and Lisa moved back to Royal City in 2001 where they teamed up with Josh’s father and uncle to create a farming-first operation of the highest order. In addition to beautiful examples of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Riesling, and Viognier (among so many others) the farming operations also span apple orchards, cherry orchards, and a variety of other crops, such as wheat, hay and dried beans.
Washington’s wine industry is dominated by national commercial brands and many wineries are simply brands working to blend fruit from variou Columbia Valley sources. Gård does things differently, farming their vineyard in the newly approved Royal Slope AVA the old fashioned way and celebrating their crop through their estate bottled wines.
