Winestyr Review

Kivelstadt's most versatile red wine, Father's Watch is a Rhone style blend with rustic and earthy flavors that are balanced out by plenty of bright, approachable fruit. Made from 35% Syrah, 30% Carignane, 20% Grenache, and 15% Mourvedre, this wine is vegan and made from organically-grown grapes, aged in 10% new French oak for 16 months. 1,200 cases produced.

What We Love

  • Great value Rhone style red
  • Perfect for everyday drinking
  • Pairs well with a variety of foods

This Rhone-style red blend should be a candidate to become your new house wine.

Experience

As Founder and Head Winemaker at Kivelstadt Cellars, Jordan Kivelstadt seeks to create wines that stand out. His passion for food and wine permeates everything he does. By day he is the Founder and CEO of Free Flow Wines, a wine on tap company focused on improving the quality and sustainability of the wine we drink in restaurants. He initially cut his teeth in wine working harvests in California, Argentina, Chile and Australia. Kivelstadt Cellars is Jordan's creative outlet and brings balance to his daily responsibilities at Free Flow. He pours all of those experiences into innovating in the wine industry and improving the wines at Kivelstadt Cellars vintage after vintage.

Winery

After leaving a career in consulting in his early twenties, Founder and Winemaker Jordan Kivelstadt traveled the world making wine in California, Australia, Chile, and Argentina. In 2007, Jordan made 125 cases of Estate Syrah. He drew inspiration both from his winemaking experiences in the new world and his family’s passion for European cuisine, art, and wine culture. Jordan has focused on exploring the product of incredible California vineyards, with a nod toward the rich history and balance of the old world wines. Production has grown to 3,500 cases annually and the Kivelstadt Cellars wines are featured on wine lists at some of the best restaurants in the country.

Where are the ratings?

Are the wines any good? Yes, they are and we taste every wine that is considered for our site. We seek out the best wines from the best small-producers in the U.S. and Winestyr is a collection of our favorites. Most of the wines have impressive accolades, however, don't look for "expert" ratings here - we think it's more important to buy wines you find interesting and to decide for yourself. Need some specific recommendations? Chat us in the lower right box or send our lead curator an email at bob@winestyr.com.
