This is a wonderful Chenin Blanc from Napa Valley that drinks more like a French Vouvray than it does some of its California counterparts. Chenin Blanc got a bad reputation thanks to some of the larger producers who bottled a sweet, vapid expression of the grape for many years, but in the past handful of years, some California producers (Lang & Reed among them) have been producing some stunning examples that are driven by minerality and stonefruit flavors, searing acidity, and even some saline notes - much like their French counterparts. This Chenin Blanc from Lang & Reed is a good example of this new movement of craft Chenins from California and I'm a huge fan. This is one of my favorite whites of the past few years. A serious white that is very food-friendly, this is a great wine for serious wine drinkers. 248 cases produced.
Tracey & John Skupny started Lang & Reed Wine Company in 1996 with the goal to explore the distinct charms of Cabernet Franc and to craft wines that are both expressive and enjoyable to drink. During their wine ‘foundation’ years, the they became intrigued by the magnitude of distinction Cabernet Franc held from notable wine regions in France: Loire Valley and Bordeaux. The Skupnys set out to produce a Cabernet Franc that was ‘true to type’, redolent in aroma, and pure in flavor with, structure and balance. Their journey has been a smashing success as they are widely held as one of the original and absolute best producers of domestic Cabernet Franc. We're very proud to have their wines in the Winestyr portfolio.
