The Larkmead 2018 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a study in precision and balance. On one hand, there's a lovely density to the wine that keeps things persistent from your first sip to the last. On the other, this reminds us of Napa Cabs from the 70s and 80s when they were much more graceful than some are today. This is just a brilliant wine. 97 pts Wine Enthusiast
One of Napa's oldest family owned wineries, Larkmead Vineyards has been a standard bearer in Calistoga for decades. Kate's parents bought the property in 1948 but it was the second generation, with Kate and her husband running things, that transformed Larkmead into the heralded estate it is today. Acclaimed winemaker Dan Petroski directed winemaking from 2013 until summer of 2021, when Avery Heelan took over as Dan focused on his own brand. Heelan comes to Larkmead with experience at Screaming Eagle, Domaine Boyer-Martenot, and Capel Vale Winery.
