Winestyr Review

Martha Stoumen's inaugural vintage of Venturi Vineyard Zinfandel is just completely and utterly thrilling. Sourced from the same site as her old vine Carignan, this Zinfandel is fermented in whole clusters with foot treading and body punchdowns encouraging a long and slow fermentation. The wine is racked once out of neutral barrels and bottling with very, very tiny amounts of trace sulphur.

Martha Stoumen Wines

After studying agricultural systems and Italian in college, Martha ventured across the pond to Italy where she spent much of her time in vineyards. From there, it was only a matter of time until her agrarian itch was scratched as much by viticulture as olive orchards and bee farms. She apprenticed across the world, including stops with the likes of Chris Brockway and Giusto Occhipinti. These mentors helped shape her approach but in the end, Martha has carved out her own path crafting natural wines of immense pleasure and provenance.

We absolutely loved this wine. High acidity and very juicy with earthy and red fruit notes. It reminded us of a Fleurie or a wine from Beaujolais. 4.5-5/5 Stars

Not a real fan of zinfandel
