Winestyr Review

This Cabernet Sauvignon from Matthiasson exemplifies the balance, power, and precision that we're seeing begin to take favor in Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The fruit for this wine was picked at optimal ripeness, as opposed to overripe, to preserve bright acidity, freshness, and minerality to go along with bold Napa Valley fruit. The resulting wine is sophisticated and layered, with great structure, and while it's drinking well in its youth, this wine has the potential to develop for 15+ years in the cellar. A great effort from revered winemakers Jill and Steve Matthiasson. 94pts from Decanter.

Matthiasson

Steve Matthiasson, who got his start as a heralded vineyard manager, and his wife, Jill Klein Matthiasson, an ivy league educated botanist, have become a formidable duo in the world of winemaking. The critical acclaim for their approach to farming, as well as their winemaking, and wines, seems to have no bounds. The list is too long to include here, but some of the highlights include recognition from the James Beard Foundation and winemaker of the year honors from California wine guru Jon Bonné of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Quite smooth, slightly higher acidity. Tastes a little younger than 2014. Great with lamb.
