Winestyr Review

This is the second vintage of the POE Rosé we've had the privilege of working with. This is one of the absolute best expressions of domestic Rosé being made today and much credit goes to rockstar winemaker (and POE proprietor) Samantha Sheehan. The wine is a blend of 66% Pinot Noir from the Balestra vineyard located in Salinas just a few miles from the ocean in Monterey. The Pinot Meunier, which accounts for 34% of the blend, is from the Van der Kamp Vineyard on Sonoma Mountain. Both vineyards are over 100 years old and the Balestra Vineyard has remained in the same family for the duration. This wine is like drinking liquid rose petals and wild strawberries. Light and dry, floral and precise, this wine dances across the palate and is just so enticing. We have a very limited allocation of this wine and when it's gone, it's gone. 66% Pinot Noir, 34% Pinot Meunier. 600 cases produced.

Poe Wines

After being inspired by the wines she tasted in Burgundy and Champagne, Samantha set out on her own. The goal is not to replicate Burgundy, but rather create alluring, vineyard specific, age-worthy wines revealing the beautiful terroir of California. There is minimal intervention, judicious use of sulfur, and never any additives in the winemaking process. Each wine is made in very limited quantities, and sold directly from the winery and to high-end restaurants around the country. Ultraviolet is a relatively new project setting out to celebrate classic grapes made in throw-back styles to offer enticing and affordable examples to new wine drinkers.
