Diego and Shaunt have one of the most unique winery setups in the country, if not the world. Tucked into the hills above Orinda, which is just a few minutes outside of Oakland, this duo crafts their flagship natural wines in the raised basement of Shaunt’s family home. That’s right, they lifted the house to make sure the cellar (er...basement) had room for their barrel stacks. It’s a true bootstrap operation but one that has yielded incredible wines beloved by natural wine enthusiasts.
Under the Populis brand, Diego and Shaunt bring their winemaking expertise and touch to the marketplace at very approachable prices. As always, every vineyard source is farmed organically without the use of herbicides or pesticides with a premium placed on old vine plantings. The wines themselves tend to be classic field blends, though their varietal expressions are equally exciting. These are the kinds of natural wines that everyone can appreciate and more importantly, enjoy!
