Rafael et Fils Wine

New beginnings and heights, led by the second generation

Georg and Rosie Rafael came to America from France 50 years ago and, with their initial purchase of 50 acres of Oak Knoll land in 1982, their legacy lives on through their son Marc. Tasked with taking the family's beautiful plot and turning it from a high-quality grape source for other wineries into their own production, Marc moved to Napa full-time in 2010. The wines are slowly catching the attention of wine critics and sommeliers with each vintage and we’re expecting the Cabernet Sauvignon in particular to generate a loyal following.

Rafael’s estate vineyard sits in the Oak Knoll AVA

Old vines dot this beautiful but rugged sloped site

While Marc does source some grapes from Anderson Valley, their estate vineyard is marked by beautiful, burly Cabernet Sauvignon vines. Oak Knoll is generally more celebrated for grapes like Merlot and Chardonnay as Cabernet can struggle, at times, to fully ripen to modern Napa standards here at the southern end of the valley. Two things work in Rafael’s favor though: their old vines and their penchant for crafting a more balanced style than might exist elsewhere in Napa.
