This wine from Napa Valley should be a solid candidate to become your everyday house Cab. It has the typical Napa Cab attributes (bold fruit flavors, sweet oak, and firm tannins), but unlike many of its peers, its price point is easy to justify. Whether you're drinking it privately or serving it to guests, it can be your "go-to" Cabernet that won't be likely to disappoint.
Lodi (pronounced "low-die") is located to the northeast (mostly east) of San Francisco and south of Sacramento and is known for its Zinfandel. The town didn't used to be a big tourist attraction, but is now coming into its own with a beautiful downtown full of nice restaurants and tasting rooms. One of those tasting rooms is H-G, which was undergoing a remodel when we were there. If you happen to stop in, ask for Chris Cullem - she's an amazing ambassador for their wines and super fun. After you fill up on wine, make sure to head over to Bon Appetit sandwich shop - it's tiny, but the sandwiches are so good, you'll think you died and went to foodie heaven.
With over 150 years of wine industry coursing through Lodi's H-G Vineyards (Hansen Garbarino), you're sure to indulge in well-crafted wines at a great value from this producer. H-G prides themselves on approachable wines that go well with a variety of foods and occasions. H-G's wines showcase the Lodi appellation as well as some coastal regions along with select vineyards from Napa, Sonoma, Paso Robles, and Santa Maria.More from this winery
Are the wines any good? Yes, they are and we taste every wine that is considered for our site. We seek out the best wines from the best small-producers in the U.S. and Winestyr is a collection of our favorites. Most of the wines have impressive accolades, however, don't look for "expert" ratings here - we think it's more important to buy wines you find interesting and to decide for yourself.
