This is a neat wine because 95% of the fruit that went into this wine came from America's oldest Zinfandel vineyard which is documented to have been a working vineyard in 1869 - hence the name. The wine is a throwback and homage to the more-balanced, lower-alcohol Zinfandel styles of the past. This is not a big, jammy old vine Zinfandel and that's exactly what I like about it. Balanced and nuanced with strong earthy notes. This is a gentlemen's Zinfandel.
Scott Harvey is one of Amador County's pioneers and has been producing incredibly drinkable expressions of Barbera, Syrah, and Zinfandel under his label Scott Harvey Wines. Before that, he was a partner, winemaker, and president of Napa's Folie A Deux winery where he created the Menage a Trois line of wines. Scott splits his time between his home and vineyard in Napa Valley and Amador County where he works with some of the oldest growers. These are wines that go perfectly with a variety of foods - specifically grilled meats.
