Winestyr Review

This is a great wine from California's Amador County. More old world in style, this wine is dry, easy-drinking, and never overly jammy. Balanced with nice acid, this is a very, very food friendly wine and could be paired with a variety of dishes, but I'd suggest going with a lighter Italian dish (think Tuscan fare). 100% Barbera.

What We Love

  • Old world style
  • Food friendly

This wine is perfect for those who like the food-friendly, easy-drinking table wines of Italy.

I met Jana Harvey for the first time at the Harvey's beautiful home and vineyard in Napa - just East of St. Helena. Having missed a turn and continuing straight through downtown St. Helena, I was about 30 minutes late to our meeting. Jana could not have been nicer and within minutes I felt like I had known her for years - she's just one of those people. The thing that impressed me the most is how knowledgable Scott and Jana Harvey are when it comes to Amador County and winemaking. That and their passion for making beautiful wines at reasonable prices.

Scott Harvey is one of Amador County's pioneers and has been producing incredibly drinkable expressions of Barbera, Syrah, and Zinfandel under his label Scott Harvey Wines. Before that, he was a partner, winemaker, and president of Napa's Folie A Deux winery where he created the Menage a Trois line of wines. Scott splits his time between his home and vineyard in Napa Valley and Amador County where he works with some of the oldest growers. These are wines that go perfectly with a variety of foods - specifically grilled meats.

Where are the ratings?

Are the wines any good? Yes, they are and we taste every wine that is considered for our site. We seek out the best wines from the best small-producers in the U.S. and Winestyr is a collection of our favorites. Most of the wines have impressive accolades, however, don't look for "expert" ratings here - we think it's more important to buy wines you find interesting and to decide for yourself.
