Cortese (pronounced cor-TAY-zee), is best known as the varietal that goes into the great table wines of Gavi in Italy. The wines are approachable, lower in alcohol and great to pair with a variety of lighter foods, but especially seafood and lighter pasta dishes. Made by master winemaker, Steve Matthiasson, this is the table wine for all occassions.
Tendu is the second label from Jill and Steve Matthiasson who are better known for their pure, balanced wines from vineyards in Sonoma and Napa. Steve was awarded the SF Chronicle's "Winemaker of the Year" award and has been nominated for multiple James Beard awards for his work in wine. Their Tendu line represents some of the best values we've come across for honest, small-production wines. Lower alcohol, with great structure and balance, the Tendu line is reminiscent of the great table wines of France and Italy that are meant to be consumed in their youth. The word tendu refers to tension or poise and these wines are just that; racy and full of energy. We suggest you load up on these wines as they're perfect "house" styles.
