The 2015 Vermillion is another killer southern Rhone style blend from acclaimed winemaker Helen Keplinger who is better-known for her hard-to-find Keplinger label wines. Bursting with layer upon layer of Black cherry, wild raspberry, cinnamon, sweet spices, and earth, this wine is distinctly California, but does a great job paying homage to its muse in the Rhone region of France. This is one of the better Rhone-inspired blends, as well as one of the best value reds, coming out of California. 62% Grenache, 21% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah, 6% Petite Sirah, and 1% Counoise.
Vermillion is Keplinger's "2nd label" and the Vermillion red gets much of the same fruit and the same expert winemaking as the pricier, fully-allocated Keplinger wines. Helen Keplinger and DJ Warner set out to create a pure, high-quality Rhone style red blend with the Vermillion label and what they've created is even more than that. Every release of Vermillion has been a favorite of Winestyr members and with just one sip, it’s easy to see why.
