The 2015 Vermillion is another killer southern Rhone style blend from acclaimed winemaker Helen Keplinger who is better-known for her hard-to-find Keplinger label wines. Bursting with layer upon layer of Black cherry, wild raspberry, cinnamon, sweet spices, and earth, this wine is distinctly California, but does a great job paying homage to its muse in the Rhone region of France. This is one of the better Rhone-inspired blends, as well as one of the best value reds, coming out of California. 62% Grenache, 21% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah, 6% Petite Sirah, and 1% Counoise.
"The quality of wine is based on the quality of all its inputs – good vineyards, smart farming, pure and focused winemaking – ultimately TLC at every step. When all the ingredients are good, the beauty of wine is simplicity. We are not pulling out all the stops like we do with Keplinger, we’re just making good, pure wines. We’ve sought out interesting sites with fair prices, made no-frills decisions to make honest wine and bring you an aritisanal blend of red Rhone varietals. We have seen this wine from the vineyard to the bottle, start to finish. Vermillion is a hand-crafted wine to be enjoyed any night of the week." - Helen Keplinger & DJ Warner
Vermillion is Keplinger's "2nd label" and the Vermillion red gets much of the same fruit and the same expert winemaking as the pricier, fully-allocated Keplinger wines. Helen Keplinger and DJ Warner set out to create a pure, high-quality Rhone style red blend with the Vermillion label and what they've created is even more than that.More from this winery
Are the wines any good? Yes, they are and we taste every wine that is considered for our site. We seek out the best wines from the best small-producers in the U.S. and Winestyr is a collection of our favorites. Most of the wines have impressive accolades, however, don't look for "expert" ratings here - we think it's more important to buy wines you find interesting and to decide for yourself.
