As you might expect, Coquerel's 2012 Petite Sirah is one large wine. The color is nearly black, an indicator of the underlying depth and concentration. The nose is dark and ripe with tons of earth and spice. While it is powerful, there is still a sense of elegance to this wine. Aged for 26 months in French oak. Only 459 cases produced.
With the 2005 purchase of their first estate vineyard, Coquerel Family Wine Estates began producing exceptional Napa Valley red and white wines under the guiding hand of winemaker Christine Barbe, who earned her Ph.D in 1996 from the Bordeaux Institute of Enology. The winery is located just beyond the town of Calistoga at the north end of the Napa Valley and the heart and soul of Coquerel Wines is their estate “Walnut Wash” vineyard, a gorgeous, oak-studded property that sits in the afternoon shadows of the Mayacamas Mountains. Pure, crisp whites and powerful, yet sophisticated, reds have become their hallmark; a true melding of Napa Valley intensity and French elegance.
