Winestyr Review

The 2018 vintage might have started off blazing hot in Washington's Columbia Valley, but things cooled off in late summer and allowed this Yakima Valley vineyard to ease itself into a perfectly balanced, crunchy Gamay site. In the glass, the wine is almost pale copper thanks to destemming and shows ripe watermelon and wild strawberry!

What We Love

  • Single vineyard Gamay rosé
  • Excellent minerality
  • A complex, exciting wine

As Gamay gains popularity, don't forget the wineries that championed it

Experience

Division Winemaking Company is a Portland, Oregon based winery founded in 2010 by Kate Norris and Thomas Monroe. Inspired by the wineries of Loire, Beaujolais, Burgundy, and the Northern Rhone where they first learned winemaking and viticulture, the urban winery creates Oregon and Washington wines including Pinot Noir, Gamay, Chardonnay, Rosé, Chenin, Riesling, Cabernet Franc, Cot, Syrah, Grenache, and Sauvignon Blanc. Determined to make approachable and balanced wines though minimal manipulation, the winemakers have a passion to work with well farmed, terroir-expressive vineyards, many of which are organic and/or Biodynamic, celebrating the varietals the winemakers loves to drink.

Where are the ratings?

Are the wines any good? Yes, they are and we taste every wine that is considered for our site. We seek out the best wines from the best small-producers in the U.S. and Winestyr is a collection of our favorites. Most of the wines have impressive accolades, however, don't look for "expert" ratings here - we think it's more important to buy wines you find interesting and to decide for yourself. Need some specific recommendations? Chat us in the lower right box or send our lead curator an email at bob@winestyr.com.
