Winestyr Review

This is a singular wine made with fruit from an extreme coastal vineyard at the very north end of the Sonoma Coast AVA (and farmed by Ulises Valdez). High toned fruit notes of cherry and strawberry, good structure, and great complexity make this wine a real stunner. With just enough earth, spice, and complexity, you'll be sure to pour more than one glass. Aged for 11 months in 13% new French oak. 187 cases produced.

What We Love

This is an exceptionally crafted Pinot Noir for true fans of the variety.

"We started Gros Ventre because we wanted to create the kinds of wines we most enjoy drinking – inspired by the old world, but not afraid of the new one. Since 2009, we’ve been sourcing Pinot noir from coastal vineyards in Sonoma County and Anderson Valley. Starting with the 2016 vintage, we’re introducing our first wines from the El Dorado wine region, our home since 2010. Here in El Dorado, we consistently find ourselves among some of the most interesting up-and-coming vineyards in California. Our question has been – how do we incorporate El Dorado fruit into our burgundian, coastal lineup? At long last, we decided to stop questioning and start doing – and in 2016 got our hands on some very pretty El Dorado Gamay, Vermentino, Picpoul, and Pinot. Making these new wines has been so much fun and we’re thrilled to start offering them in 2017." - Sarah and Chris Pittenger

Gros Ventre sources grapes from some of the best growers in Anderson Valley, Russian River Valley and the True Sonoma Coast. All of them are sustainably farmed, some organic or bio-dynamic, and all are managed by teams dedicated to producing world class Pinot noir. Most of their growers and vineyard managers are close friends of proprietors Chris and Sarah Pittenger which enables them to work well together with shared beliefs of sustainability and quality. The resulting wines are stunning and we're proud to offer them as part of the Winestyr portfolio.

Where are the ratings?

Are the wines any good? Yes, they are and we taste every wine that is considered for our site. We seek out the best wines from the best small-producers in the U.S. and Winestyr is a collection of our favorites. Most of the wines have impressive accolades, however, don't look for "expert" ratings here - we think it's more important to buy wines you find interesting and to decide for yourself.
