Winestyr Review

The highly coveted fruit that went into the Gros Ventre Cerise Vineyard Pinot Noir is only sold to a handful of select producers. Sitting high above the Anderson Valley floor, this rocky, wind and fog-swept vineyard produces exceptional fruit that is unlike any other surrounding regions. This wine is elegant yet complex with intense red fruit and earthy aromas. Light tannins and mouthwatering acidity create a wine that is reminiscent of a red Burgundy, with it's own California flair. Fermented with wild yeast. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. Aged for 11 months in 9% new French oak.

What We Love

  • Elegant and sophisticated structure
  • Smooth
  • Earthy

At first you think it's oak, but that's actually more floral and herbal with Oolong tea, tarragon, and sage!

Experience

Gros Ventre sources grapes from some of the best growers in Anderson Valley, Russian River Valley and the True Sonoma Coast. All of them are sustainably farmed, some organic or bio-dynamic, and all are managed by teams dedicated to producing world class Pinot noir. Most of their growers and vineyard managers are close friends of proprietors Chris and Sarah Pittenger which enables them to work well together with shared beliefs of sustainability and quality. The resulting wines are stunning and we're proud to offer them as part of the Winestyr portfolio.

Where are the ratings?

Are the wines any good? Yes, they are and we taste every wine that is considered for our site. We seek out the best wines from the best small-producers in the U.S. and Winestyr is a collection of our favorites. Most of the wines have impressive accolades, however, don't look for "expert" ratings here - we think it's more important to buy wines you find interesting and to decide for yourself. Need some specific recommendations? Chat us in the lower right box or send our lead curator an email at bob@winestyr.com.
