We only work with a handful of Rosés each year and are admittedly somewhat snobby and discerning when it comes to this wine style. The 2017 Rosé of Cabernet Franc by Halcyon is an absolute stunner and we were lucky to procure a tiny allocation of this vintage. This wine is highlighted by bright acid and subtle notes of kirsch and rose petal, this wine is perfect for all of your Rosé needs. 150 cases produced.
The myth of Halcyon and the "Halcyon Days" is a tender story of love and commitment that takes place along the coast of ancient Greece. Halcyon is a name for a bird in this Greek legend generally associated with the kingfisher. There was an ancient belief that the bird nested on the sea, which it calmed in order to lay its eggs on a floating nest. Two weeks of calm weather were therefore expected around the winter solstice. Thus, the phrase 'Halcyon Days' signifies prosperity, joy, liberation and tranquility.
Halcyon Wines is brought to you by husband and wife duo, Tyler and Kim Elwell. Launched in 2013 after Tyler discovered an intriguing Cabernet Franc vineyard in Paso Robles, California - a varietal he always dreamed of working with - Halcyon Wines focuses exclusively on crafting wines from Cabernet Franc that balance old world grace and new world hubris. Prior to Halcyon, Tyler earned his stripes as Assistant Winemaker at world-renowned Tablas Creek Vineyard from 2012-2016. Halcyon Wines is inspired by a love for California, the Loire Valley, and a constant pursuit of wisdom, balance and love.More from this winery
Are the wines any good? Yes, they are and we taste every wine that is considered for our site. We seek out the best wines from the best small-producers in the U.S. and Winestyr is a collection of our favorites. Most of the wines have impressive accolades, however, don't look for "expert" ratings here - we think it's more important to buy wines you find interesting and to decide for yourself.
