The Piedrasassi 2019 Bien Nacido Vineyard Syrah is a revelation. Situated between Santa Barbara and Paso Robles just about 20 miles from the ocean, cooling breezes from the Pacific make their way inland and help the vineyard stay moderated in the late summer heat. Sashi makes this wine with an eye towards the rustic styles of the Old World and as always with this vineyard, time will be rewarded, whether in the cellar or decanter. 94pts Vinous.
In the years since founding Piedrasassi, Sashi Moorman has become internationally recognized for his efforts at Sandhi, Evening Land, and Domaine de La Cote but it was his devotion to Syrah that marked his beginnings. Serving as the winemaker at Stolpman Vineyards for 15 years before heading out on his own, Sashi is among the New World’s most accomplished devotees to the grape.
